Nicole Wiet
Elevator Operator
BC Tradeswomen Society
I’m a third-generation elevator mechanic in the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 82. I started my career ten years ago with the support of both my father and grandfather. I work both as a foreperson running large projects, as well as an adjuster at Otis Elevator.
I am the first woman elected to my local union’s executive board which is a position I respect and value greatly and it has helped me to facilitate the hiring of more women into our trade. I am also one of the founding board members of the BC Tradeswomen Society that supports both union and non-union tradeswomen.
I work hard to increase awareness of the barriers that tradeswomen face at work as well as solutions to the barriers. I am so fortunate to be a part of the Governance Committee for the BCCWITT and I am excited to see all that the Centre is going to accomplish for tradeswomen.
